Grading Policy:

All work (other than the final exam) must be completed and handed in on or before the last day of class in order to receive a passing grade for this course.

Your grade will be computed from your scores on the weekly homework assignments, the midterm exam, and the final exam, plus your participation in the class and the on-line discussion forum. See the homework, exam, and questions and summaries policy pages for details on the policies concerning them, and see the course calendar for the schedule of the homeworks and exams. See the registrar's schedule for the time and location of the final exam (when it is available).

The components have the following weights:

On-line Questions 10 %
On-line Summaries 5 %
Written Homework 20 %
Midterm Exam 25 %
Final Exam 30 %
Participation 10 %

A late or missing homework will count as a zero, and there will be no make-ups for missed howework or exams. Midterm exams can be taken early only under unusual circumstances (as determined by the instructor), and only by arranging a time with the instructor at least one week in advance of the date of the exam. The final exam can not be rescheduled.

The department has a policy of not giving final exams early, regardless of the reason. Recently, many math finals have been scheduled on the last day of exams and you should make travel plans accordingly. Do not purchase (or let your parents purchase) airline tickets before you know your exam schedule, as flight plans are not an acceptable reason to reschedule the final.

At the end of the term, students sometimes ask me to send their final exam and course grades to them; however, Union College's interpretation of the Federal Educational Records Privacy Act (FERPA) prohibits me from being able to send your grades via email, so I am unable to accommodate such requests.
