Recently, I had a student who failed his first quiz, but did not come to see me. After doing poorly on the midterm exam, I requested that he come in to see me. I asked why he hadn't come in right away, and he said he was embarrassed at having failed the quiz. Don't forget, I already know what your grades are so far, so don't worry about looking stupid if you come in to see me after doing poorly on an assignment. In fact, it looks worse if you don't come in, as this makes it seem you don't care. If you did badly, I really do want you to come in and try to work out what the problem is.
