Class Times:MWF 8:00-9:05am

Office Hours:

Book:Calculus: Early Transcendentals, 9th edition, by Anton, Bivens, and Davis.

Grading: The higher of the two grading options will determine your average for the course. Any attendance penalty will be subtracted from this average to determine your letter grade for the course.

  • Option 1:
  • Option 2:

WeBWorK: WeBWorK will occaisionally be assigned and is due at 6pm on the due date. No late work will be accepted for any reason whatsoever. The WeBWorK grade for the semester will be the percentage of all WeBWorK problems you worked correctly throughout semester dropping three problems. For instance, if you worked 40 out of 53 assigned problems for the semester, you would earn 40/50=80% of the WeBWorK credit.

Homework: While homework problems from the textbook are assigned but not turned in, that does not mean they are not an integral part of this course. I expect that you have worked all homework problems and understand them. If you find you are having difficulties with them, you can get help during office hours or from the Calculus Help Center. Math is like a sport and you are a math-lete. Practice, and a lot of it, is key to success.

Quizzes:Quizzes cannot be made up for any reason. A missed quiz will result in a quiz grade of zero. I will drop your lowest quiz grade when calculating your quiz average.

Attendance:Attendance is mandatory. EVERY absence after 3 classes will result in a 1% drop in your final average.

Calculator Use:Calculators will not be allowed on exams or quizzes. The Calculus Help Center is available to assist you.

Grade Appeals:You have one week from when a graded work is returned to the class to dispute your assigned grade.

Missed Work:If you know ahead of time you will miss a graded event, you should contact me BEFORE. If something unforseen keeps you from a graded event, you must contact me as soon as possible. I am not required to allow you to make up any missed work. Such missed work could receive a zero for a grade.

Academic Integrity:The Union College Student Handbook includes sections on academic dishonesty and plagiarism. Please review this material. The penalty for an act of academic dishonesty in this course may include a failing grade for the course. You are encouraged to work together on the homework, but the WeBWorK and exams are to be solely your own work.

Students with Disabilites: Students with disabilities wishing to utilize their accomodations must give me the appropriate letter from Shelly Shinebarger by the end of the second week of classes.
