a) An Introduction to the p-adic Numbers

This topic combines algebra and analysis. Part of the project involves understanding the setting in which $-1 = 1+ 2 + 4 + 8 + 16 +....$

This is a topic for an honors thesis or a two-term thesis. Prerequisites: Math 336 and 432.

b) Algebraic Number Theory

The goal is to explore some of the relationships between abstract algebra, Galois Theory and Number Theory.

This is a topic for an honors thesis or a two-term thesis. Prerequisite: Math 432
