Fourier Transform and Image Processing

Under the direction of: Jue Wang

Fourier transforms provide a way to convert the samples of a standard time-series into the frequency domain. Image processing via the frequency domain is becoming more popular as computers become faster. Applications of Fourier transforms include: Filtering images to remove noises and other artifacts, Image Compression, Convolution and Deconvolution, etc. Techniques on Fourier Transform and Discrete Fourier Transform will be investigated and some interesting examples will be studied.

Students need to know (or will have to learn) some techniques on numerical analysis and programming in Matlab.

This topic is suitable for a one-term thesis.
