a) An Introduction to the p-adic Numbers.

This topic combines algebra and analysis. Part of the project involves understanding the setting in which -1 = 1+ 2 + 4 + 8 + 16 +.... Prerequisite: Math 336.

For a two-term or honors thesis, Math 432 is required.

b) Algebraic Number Theory

The goal is to explore some of the relationships between Abstract Algebra/ Galois Theory and Number Theory. Prerequisite: Math 432.
