Irrational Numbers

Many of you have seen a proof that $\sqrt 2$ is irrational (probably in Math 199). What about $\pi$ or $e$, or other familiar irrational numbers? This topic would be a study of irrational numbers including perhaps the study of rational approximations, proofs of the irrationality of familiar numbers, as well as some of the history of the subject.
