A partition of a natural number n is a list of natural numbers whose sum is n. The number of partitions of n is denoted p(n). For example, the partitions of 3 are {1,1,1}, {1,2}, and {3}, so p(3)=3. The function p has been studied for centuries. I'll discuss some of the interesting mathematics that has resulted from the study of this seemingly simple function. This talk is based on thesis work with Jessica DiMarco.
