Parrondo's Paradox: Winning by Losing?
April 22, 2005
Pastries and Beverages will be served.
The name "Parrondo's Paradox" is given to the phenomenon that occurs when two games, each of which produce a losing result when played individually, yield a winning result when played in certain alternating sequences. We examine the conditions under which the paradox results for specified games using Markov chain theory. Generalizations of the games are also examined for applications to the field of biology.
