Abstract:

What is an REU and why should you participate in one (other than the thrill of getting paid to do math all summer)? Undergraduate research is helpful both in deciding whether to pursue a career in mathematics, and in giving you the experience necessary to make that career happen. I will discuss what an REU is and talk about my experiences from last summer. I will also discuss my research on inverse problems. Inverse problems have many applications, but I focused on an area related to non-destructive testing which can be used both in engineering and in medical imaging. Finally, I will talk about what I have done since the program ended and my next step: graduate school.
