What is algebraic deformation theory? (How a "very pure" algebraic topologist came to understand anything about quantum mechanics.)

Abstract:

This talk will be a survey of the algebraic deformation theory which I should have known about several years ago, but only learned about in the last year. I hope to explain some of the relationships between--and some of the meaning of--Hochschild homology, Andre-Quillen homology, algebraic deformation theory, and quantum mechanics. No background in any of these subjects is a prerequisite for the lecture.
